Family Resources
At The Compass School, we believe that the foundation of a successful educational experience is rooted in a strong partnership between school, families, and the broader community. We actively encourage parent involvement and welcome you to engage in a variety of ways throughout the school year. Our co-op environment thrives with the support of our families, and we offer numerous opportunities for you to participate in your child’s learning and school life. Parent Volunteer Opportunities
We invite parents to join in many activities that enrich our community and enhance the educational experience for all students. Our annual Farm Days are a wonderful way to spend time on the school farm with your family, helping to plant or prepare the garden beds for the upcoming season. Parents are also encouraged to participate in our governing committees, where your insights and contributions can directly impact the direction of the school. Our committees include:
- Development Committee
- Physical Environment/Site Committee
- Learning Committee
- Policy Committee
- Health & Safety Committee
- Farm Committee
- Finance Committee
Co-op Environment and Family Engagement
Involving parents in every facet of the school is key to The Compass School’s success. Each year, we host goal-setting conferences early in the school year, where parents, students, and teachers set collaborative goals. Student-led conferences in March offer an opportunity to review progress and reflect on growth.
The Learning Committee presents a series of events throughout the year to familiarize parents with our educational philosophy, including sessions on multi-age learning, peaceful parenting, and environmental sustainability. Our Eco Fair each spring provides a great chance to celebrate sustainability and connect with the wider community.
Throughout the year, there are many social events that bring our families together, including classroom sharing, coastal clean-ups, sports events and ice cream socials. These events foster a welcoming environment where parents feel connected to the school and to each other.
