Enrollment Lottery

2025-26 Enrollment is Open – Apply Now

The Compass School is a public charter school open to all Rhode Island residents. Enrollment is conducted through a random lottery process, in accordance with our charter. Any applicant not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list, which does not roll over from year to year. Applications are submitted electronically via EnrollRI, a centralized platform for charter school applications.

EnrollRI Common Application

The Compass School participates in EnrollRI, a Common Application designed to ensure that access to Rhode Island charter schools is easy, safe, and accessible for all families. Charter school enrollment is nonselective and determined through a random lottery process.

  • Application Timeline

    • Application Launch: November 19, 2024

    • Application Deadline: Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 5:00 PM

    • Charter School Lottery: April 1, 2025

For more details about the application process, visit EnrollRI.org/charter.

You can also use the Family Information Tool (FIT) to find schools that align with your family's needs, including performance, accessibility, and program offerings. After identifying the schools that interest you, use the EnrollRI Common Application to apply to eligible charter schools. Schools participating in EnrollRI will conduct their lotteries on April 1, 2025, and communicate enrollment status shortly thereafter.

Open House

We invite prospective families to join us for an Open House at The Compass School on Saturday, March 1, 2025. This is an excellent opportunity to tour our campus, meet the school Director, and learn more about our lottery and admissions process.

Open House Sessions:

  • 1:00 – 2:00 PM: Families with students entering K–4th grade

  • 2:30 – 3:30 PM: Families with students entering 5th–8th grade
(If your family has prospective students in both age ranges, please attend the 2:30–3:30 session.)

What to Expect:

  • Campus tour (please dress appropriately for the weather)

  • Information on our project-based learning approach and environmental sustainability focus

  • Guidance on the admissions and lottery process

Who Should Attend:

  • For students entering K–2nd grade, we recommend parents attend without their children, as the presentation is not designed for younger audiences.

  • Students entering 4th–8th grade are encouraged to attend with their families.

All accepted students (K–8) and their families will be invited to a Spring Accepted Families Program to welcome them to The Compass School community.

Please RSVP here: Compass Open House to help us staff the event appropriately and provide updates on weather-related cancellations. We look forward to meeting you!
